Focal’s Elegia Is a Clear Winner As mentioned in my January review of the Sennheiser HD820 and HD800S, more and more headphone companies these days are attempting to turn their most well-received open-back headphones into audiophile-quality closed-back cans.. They exalt the intimacy of a personal and passionate listening session at home while opening new fields of emotion and feelings. Simply, amazing. Note cable is heavy but as long as you position it properly it is not an issue unless you are walking about, (I liken the cable to speaker cable size) The acoustic quality of this exclusive solution allowed Focal to avoid the use of any crossover or passive filtering process to achieve a frequency response from 5Hz to 50kHz! Our unique forecasting algorithm looks at historic price trends and predicts the most likely price change over the next 2 weeks. For 1000$, this is a gamechanger. That one was even more dynamically alive, transparent, and spacious. So far so good. They really make me feel like I am listening to a big stereo system, and I have to sometimes double check if my stereo system is just playing to the headphones and not the speakers when I am listening to Elear, because the sound stage is big and dynamic so it makes me believe that my speakers are also playing while I have my headphones connected. Excellent addition to my Audio component collection. Elear's could use a slight bump in the 3.5-6K region. It's undoubtedly the most neutral headphone I own but it's not flat and boring sounding like a truly flat sound signature would sound like. The equivalent of two tiny authentic loudspeakers over your ears… They meet all the requirements expected of high-end headphones due to their sophisticated and elegant design and to purposeful materiality, such as the carbon fibre yoke and true lambskin leather ear cushions. Thanks to the many cutting-edge technology which are integrated in its speaker drivers (the frameless 100% copper voice coil, ‘M’-shaped pure Beryllium dome), Stellia delivers a perfect sound, whether bass articulation or the highest frequency details. Hands down, these seem to be the first headphones I can mix/master on. I’m surprised Focal didn’t also include a shorter cable, but aftermarket cables are readily available. Sound from these headphones is just what I needed. They are the closed-back variant of the similarly designed Focal Elear. These premium headphones are very comfortable for long listening sessions and have a great build quality thanks to a metal frame and a detachable cable. I'm all for long, high quality cables but I struggle to imagine that they needed the wire to be as thick as the power cable used to wire my house. $1000. Excellent sounding headphones. Aluminum yoke, leather headband, microfibre ear cushions: all the materials used for Elear were chosen with care to optimize comfort while reducing the weight of the headphones. So Arche is an all-in-one solution, which also offers presets for every set of Focal High-Fidelity headphones (Utopia, Stellia, Clear, Elegia et Elear) to make sure you get the absolute best from this ultimate combination: owners of Focal headphones can therefore be sure they are enjoying a combination of electronics and acoustics that is carefully thought out and specially developed from the very outset. The Focal Elear are great looking headphones that have a high-end and premium feel. Maybe a bit veiled in the voice frequency band but I will give it some more time. The Elear is the entry-level headphone of this upper-tier series. I usually prefer a slightly recessed midrange. Inspired by the best technology and acoustic research that went into designing Utopia, our flagship headphones, they offer truly exceptional performance. Warm and musical, but still balanced with good treble clarity and air. Focal believes the M-dome allows an added degree of physical space in the earcup that allows the plane sound wave to fully develop much as it would in a loudspeaker, but in the limited space available inside the Elear’s ear cups. Tonality is greatly improved and the biggest change that I observed is there is warmth to the sound. Thank you, Focal. Bravo! Clearly cheap. Function embracing form. Great headphones! Beautifully tonal. Listening with Roon, Tidal, PS Audio-DSJr, and my old Melos-SHA1, the sound was truly impressive, straight out of the box. The headband feels weak. My headphones are used either direct from output on Nain 272 or via Acam headphone amp. But there’s a reason why most flagship headphones are open. Well done. Oh, how true that is. Beautiful craftsmanship, good soundstage and amazing sound: Bass is deep and powerful. I have had a lot of great headphones but none of them have had that profound of an effect on me.
