My guess is they're getting ready to drop that line of cameras, but I tried to buy a refurbished version of the 5DSR only a couple of weeks ago and it came without the AF working correctly so I sent it back, but I paid $1599 and I'm very grateful it didn't work!! While I do highly recommend the 5DsR for advanced Canon shooters who need the sharpest image possible for large print work, I advise against both the 5Ds/5DsR for people who aren’t comfortable manual focusing and/or doing micro AF adjustments on their cameras to make the most of them. Canon cameras have more accessories and are more compatible with those accessories than any other manufacturer on the market. Almost 5 years on and this camera is a little long in the tooth but in my view still the best camera you can buy for this specific type of photography. I mean there are not many lenses that support the 50.4mp sensor. Of course I expect this to change and improve but as of right now the Canon 5DSR just offers the best all round experience when it comes to usability and image quality. When you’re looking at a camera, it’s important to consider the whole system and not just individual features. Having gone through 120,000+ exposures with two 800Es, 10,000 or so with an 800, 50,000+ with an 810 and 10,000+ with the 5DSR, I find the Canon to behave more like the 800E than the 800. Most people seem to think that Sony is worse, but I can tell you from extensive experience that Fujifilm has by far the worst, most terrible menu system that I’ve ever used. This is not a subjective point, the 5DSR is faster and easier to use. It’s the sort of thing you get with distant roof tiles, wall patterns and fences, and can need extra processing to repair/correct. Canon may have their issues (don’t get me wrong, it’s not a PERFECT camera), but they are the undisputed master in usability.
